8 Months – 3 Years · Conducted in Mandarin

Two Mandarin playgroups, one for every stage

8m–3 yearsConducted in MandarinAdult-accompanied

Plenty of Singaporean families want their child to grow up comfortable in Chinese, but worry that a formal class is too much, too soon. Our Mandarin playgroups take the opposite approach. Nothing is drilled. The language simply surrounds your child while they sing, build, make a mess and explore, which is how a first language is picked up in the first place.

  • Mini Mandarin (8–12 months): conducted in Mandarin, with Chinese character recognition, music and sensory play
  • Little Mandarin (8 months – 3 years): conducted in Mandarin, promoting the language through guided, active play and simple STEAM discovery
  • A new theme each term, with a character and word of the week
  • Many families take one English class and one Mandarin class each week
  • Doors stay open up to 30 minutes after each class for free play

Prefer classes in English? See Mini Troopers for babies 8–12 months or Little Troopers for 8 months to 3 years.

🎨

Questions Parents Ask Us

Before You Book

Does my child need to speak Mandarin already?
No. Our Mandarin playgroups promote the language through guided, active play rather than formal teaching, so children pick it up by doing. Families who speak mainly English at home are very welcome.
What ages are the Mandarin classes for?
Mini Mandarin is for babies 8 to 12 months. Little Mandarin is for children 8 months to 3 years. Both are adult-accompanied, so you stay with your child. If your child is 8 to 12 months, either can work: Mini keeps them with babies of a similar age, while Little mixes them with slightly older children, which brings its own social benefits.
Does a parent stay in the class?
Yes. Only one adult accompanies the child in class at all times, and switchovers between adults are allowed from snack time onwards.
Where are the Mandarin classes held?
Most run at our Kovan centre. There is also a Friday morning class at Wan To Play, which moves to Leisure Park Kallang from 1 August 2026.
Can my child do both English and Mandarin classes?
Yes, and many families join twice weekly, one of each. Both classes have different activities, so your child gets fresh experiences rather than a repeat.
How do I try a Mandarin class?
Book a trial. A single trial is $55 and a double trial is $100, for first-time customers only. Booking must be made more than 12 hours in advance, as we don't accept walk-ins.

What Parents Say

★★★★★
Nothing but good things to say about Little Forest, and Liu Laoshi in particular. We love the mix of fitness, arts, snacks and music each class — really well suited to those under 3. They were absolutely a lovely bunch for the kids to play with, plus the Mandarin teaching.

★★★★★
My 1.5-year-old daughter and I both love the experience at Little Forest. I witnessed how much she has grown and learnt, both behaviour and knowledge wise. She sings the songs she learnt at home and looks forward to each lesson. The lessons were well thought out, the pace just right, and her teachers — Teacher Claid and Liu Laoshi — were wonderful, showing the students utmost love and care. My greatest regret is not discovering this place earlier. Will definitely recommend! ❤︎
